The Best Trans-Fat-Free Snacks
Our experts' pick: Grandpa Po's Originals
We found these lightly seasoned munchies yummy. They're made from organic popcorn and roasted soybeans. Available in Slightly Unsalted, Slightly Spicy and Slightly Sweet. Now you can satisfy the munchies without filling up on artery-clogging trans fats (which are created during food processing to increase shelf life of various baked goods).

Phil Lempert: Supermarket Guru
Grandpa Po's Scored a 97 out of 100. This Product is a HIT!
"The Crunchy Popcorn Snack with Soybeans" that Grandpa Po has created makes us want to meet the ol' man and give him a pat on the back! While we are questioning the slogan on the package "Better Than Food" - there is, however, no questioning this recipe for a great tasting, healthy snack. The mix of organic popcorn and organic soybeans makes a great alternative snack food and we love the re-sealable pouch. With just the right proportion of soybeans to popcorn this product comes from a company that celebrates food. Hooray! Available in other flavors. Retails for $3.29 - $3.49 / 5 oz package. Grandpa Po's Originals is One of the Gems
Browsing through aisles of snack food at the grocery store is like walking through a minefield for me. But don't give up hope - there are a few gems buried in amongst the dirt, and Grandpa Po's Originals is one of them. Hidden inside each unassuming re-sealable pouch is a mix of popcorn kernels and toasted soy beans, packing in a good helping of both protein and fiber, and providing a healthy answer to this snacking dilemma. Found in a total of three subtle
variations, I was only lucky enough to try two, but I can imagine that if the last one follows suit, it would be a worthy purchase as well...(click on image for full review)

The next best thing, after cooking and eating, has to be talking about food. We love sharing our latest finds. I found my new favorite snack. It's called Grandpa Po's Originals, the crunchy popcorn snack with soybeans. Okay, actually I barely have any left now. The Slightly Spicy are wonderful. They have fiber in them and they're not loaded with salt.

Grandpa Po's Originals are half-popped nuggets of corn blended with dry-roasted soybeans and slightly seasoned. They're 100% organic and contain no cholesterol, no preservatives and no trans-fatty acids while providing five grams of protein per 1/3 cup serving. Grandpa Po's Originals come in three noncommittal flavors - Slightly Unsalted, Slightly Sweet and Slightly Spicy. In case you were wondering, there really was a Grandpa Po (an Italian-American chemist born in Brooklyn in 1915), and he really did invent this stuff.

I felt like part of the family when I spoke with Mark Porro about Grandpa Po's Originals, a marvelous organic popcorn snack with soybeans. I found I couldn't stop munching when I opened the bag -and I knew I was getting the added benefits of soy as well (7 grams per serving). Once my kids saw me snacking, they wanted some, too.

When I first opened the resealable ziplock bag I saw these little golden nuggets that looked like shrunken popcorn and these little hard nuggets that looked like corn seeds, but were actually the soybeans. Upon trying the snack I pleasantly discovered that it wasn't hard like popcorn can be. It crunched easily in my teeth and it didn't leave little particles that got stuck in my teeth, something I really hate about regular popcorn.

We get a lot of snack food ideas here in the Vibrant Life office - some are good, and some are ... well. One of the good ones is Grandpa Po's Originals. Grandpa Po's are an interesting mixture of roasted soybeans, popcorn pieces, and a few other ingredients. The family recipe was created in 1963, and is now sold in three flavors - Slightly Unsalted, Slightly Spicy and Slightly Sweet.
We've tried the Slightly Unsalted and found them pretty addicting. Grandpa Po's Originals would make a good peanut alternative, particularly for those with peanut allergies. They also seem like a good way to add the benefits of soybeans to your diet in a way that doesn't have the typical soybeans taste.
